What is the easiest way to get from Punta Cana Airport to your resort?

Picture a couple landing at PUJ at 9 p.m. with two suitcases. Neither of them wants to haggle with a stranger. A pre-booked private transfer fixes that: the driver, the price and your hotel address are settled before you leave home.

The other routes work too. Official airport taxis charge fixed rates by hotel, and some packages include a resort shuttle. Check your booking confirmation first. If a transfer is on it, you are done.

How much does a Punta Cana airport transfer cost in USD?

Kiwitaxi, eTransfers and official taxis price per vehicle, not per person. Here is what the providers list for one-way trips from PUJ:

• Kiwitaxi: Bavaro and Punta Cana from $32, Uvero Alto from $50 (checked October 26, 2026). Confirm the total at checkout.
• Welcome Pickups: fixed prices, shown as €20 by day or €23 at night to Punta Cana city centre and €24 or €29 to Cap Cana Marina. Enter your hotel in its booking form for Bavaro or Uvero Alto.
• puntacanaairport.com: from $30 to Bavaro and Cap Cana, $70 to Uvero Alto. This is a private operator, not the airport itself (the official site is puntacanainternationalairport.com).
• eTransfers: a private van to Bavaro from $50, up to 8 passengers.

What about an official airport taxi?

Official taxis charge fixed rates by hotel, set by the Berón-Bávaro tourist taxi association, for 1–4 passengers plus $20 for each extra passenger. The airport's 2024 rate sheet lists most Bavaro hotels at $20–40. Sivory and Zoetry are $80, and resorts farther north, such as Macao and Uvero Alto, run $60–80. Those rates are from 2024 and may have changed.

Taxis do not use meters. Ask for the hotel-specific rate before you get in.

How long is the ride?

Expect about 20–45 minutes to Bavaro, depending on the resort and traffic. Cap Cana Marina is about 12 minutes from the airport, according to Welcome Pickups.

Private transfer, taxi or resort shuttle: which should you pick?

Match the option to your arrival, not to the cheapest number on a page.

• Family with car seats: book private and order the seats in the booking. Kiwitaxi's terms say a wrong vehicle or missing child seats can lead to the driver refusing service, so do not leave this for the curb.
• Late-night arrival: a private transfer is the calmer choice. Welcome Pickups starts its 60 minutes of free waiting when your flight actually lands, and its night rate is only €3 above the day rate to the city centre.
• Large group: one van beats two cars. eTransfers vans carry up to 8 passengers, and a taxi charges $20 for each passenger beyond four.
• Budget couple: an official taxi is an option if you are happy to ask for the hotel rate on arrival. Pre-booking fixes the price before you fly, so there is no searching for a taxi after a long day.
• Resort shuttle: some packages include one. Read your confirmation and email the resort before you pay for a second transfer.

Should you pre-book with Kiwitaxi or Welcome Pickups?

Both sell private airport rides, and both fix the price at booking. Kiwitaxi is a booking agent whose rides are run by third-party carriers. The difference is in the small print.

Pick Kiwitaxi if

• You want free cancellation when plans change: up to 24 hours before pickup.
• You want longer free waiting at the airport: 90 minutes.
• You want a fixed fare set at booking, from $32 to Bavaro and $50 to Uvero Alto.

What to check: the terms make the customer responsible for flight delays and do not cover waiting beyond the free time, and changes must be made at least 24 hours ahead. Enter your flight number and see how a delay is handled before you pay. Kiwitaxi's PUJ page shows the total for your exact address.

Pick Welcome Pickups if

• Your flight might be late. Free waiting counts from the real landing time when your flight details are correct.
• You like the sound of its stated extras: meet and greet, flight monitoring, 24/7 support and English-speaking drivers.

What to check: a cash refund costs 20% even for early cancellations (you can take a 100% coupon valid for 12 months instead), and cancelling under 24 hours before pickup gets no refund. Ask about child seats before booking. Welcome Pickups shows the price for your route when you enter it.

In short: Kiwitaxi has the longer free waiting and the full refund, and Welcome Pickups ties its waiting time to your actual landing. Pick the terms that fit your trip.

What happens after you land at PUJ?

Before you fly, complete the free Dominican e-Ticket at eticket.migracion.gob.do. It must be done before you reach the airline counter, and families get one QR code. The official tourism entry page has the current details.

PUJ has two terminals. According to the airport's FAQ, Terminal B handles American, Delta, United, Southwest, Copa, Avianca, Arajet and British Airways. Terminal A handles Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, Sun Country and Air Canada. Immigration, bags and customs average under 30 minutes, and often take an hour or more from December to April, according to Welcome Pickups' arrivals guide (February 2025).

Once you are through:

1. Read your voucher for meeting instructions. Kiwitaxi says drivers meet you in arrivals; for Welcome Pickups, follow the meeting point on your confirmation.
2. Look for a driver holding your name, not someone who approaches you first.
3. Check the price on your voucher against whatever the driver says. A secondary guide reports people posing as a pre-booked ride at arrivals, with one case quoting $80 for Bavaro.
4. Keep your voucher and a support phone number handy until you are in the car.

What if your flight is delayed?

Enter your real flight number when booking. Kiwitaxi gives 90 minutes of free waiting at airports, and Welcome Pickups gives 60 minutes counted from actual landing. If you expect to land much later than planned, contact the provider's support early. Kiwitaxi requires changes at least 24 hours before pickup.

Can you use Uber at Punta Cana Airport?

Uber's PUJ page describes requesting a licensed local taxi through the Uber app on arrival. It also says Uber Reserve takes bookings up to 90 days ahead.
